Hello Freshparents:
Teacher Strike
The strike continues: there will be no school on Friday, September 5.
Strike Resources:
BEA information is at http://www.bellevueea.org/
BSD information is at http://www.bsd405.org/
The State and National PTA both advocate for children to be back in the classroom.
Athletics
As previously reported, sports and sports-related activities (band, cheer, etc.) will continue to operate as scheduled. Competition for Newport teams starts as early as tomorrow. These are some weekend sports events:
Friday, September 5 – Varsity Football vs. Woodinville 7:00 @ Woodinville (Pop Cheney Stadium)
Saturday, September 6 – all day Varsity Volleyball King Co Jamboree @ Newport HS
Saturday, September 6 – all day JV Volleyball King Co Jamboree @ Interlake HS
You will find the schedule for all fall sports at http://www.digitalsports.com/school/id/19172/page/athletics.aspx
Spirit Ware
I have attached an order form for Freshman Class Sweats. Proceeds from the sale of this apparel go to the Senior Class for their year-end celebrations. Starting next year, the Class of 2012 will be able to influence the design of their class apparel and proceeds will come to our class. When our kids are Seniors, they will design the new Freshman sweats and reap the benefits of sales. What goes around comes around!
Another source of spirit ware is Prep Sportswear, located at http://www.prepsportswear.com. Choose the “Teams” tab and find the team store under WASHINGTON and BELLEVUE. At this site you can pick a clothing item and then personalize it by color, size, style, sport, graduation year, etc. Proceeds from sales at this site go to the Newport football team.
Volunteer Opportunity
The Bellevue Schools Foundation needs volunteers for a phonathon mailing:
Friday, September 5 between 8:30am and 3pm
Monday, September 8 between 8:30am and 3:30pm
Tuesday, September 9 between 8:30am and 5pm
Please respond to Christena Coutsoubos, Christena@bsfdn.org. Let her know who can help out and when – first come, first served. Christena needs around 10 to 15 volunteers each day – adults as well as students. If you can help for only an hour or two, she’ll take you!
