MAKING THE MOVE TO NEWPORT
Parents of current 8th grade students are invited to attend the “Making the Move to Newport” presentation that many of you attended last year at this time. The event is Wednesday, May 13, at 7:00 pm at the high school. Freshparents can help in two ways – reach out to neighbors and friends with 8th graders and extend the invitation to the presentation AND think back on freshman year so far – what has surprised you? Did anything blindside you? What would you (or your student) like to have known starting the year but didn’t? Your input is critical to making the presentation as timely and helpful as possible. Please contact me with any ideas.

FINES
Fine will be posted on the wall outside the accounting office and will be updated weekly from now until then end of school. Students must pay all fines prior to yearbook distribution. Students should check with Mrs. Pierson in the Accounting Office if they have any questions.

NEWS FROM TILLICUM PTSA
In Tillicum PTSA email last week:
Parent Alert – Dangerous Choking Game is Present in our Community
The Choking Game ended the life of a teenage boy in Bellevue a few weeks ago. Many parents have never heard of this “game” but it has been around for years and is currently being played in our community. Here are a few facts about the activity:“The game” is essentially suffocating on purpose. By cutting off the flow of oxygen for a few seconds, individuals get a “high” as the blood floods back into the brain. A rope or belt is often used to cut off the flow of oxygen. Children who experiment with this activity are typically high achieving, well-adjust males between the ages of 9 and 16. It is called many different things such as The Good Kids Game, Blackout, the Fainting Game. It can be done in groups but is increasingly done alone, which is exceptionally dangerous because there is no one around to revive the child. Within 3 minutes without oxygen, brain damage will start to occur. Death can occur in as little as 4 minutes. The internet has made the information on how to “play” this game easily accessible to our children. There is a lot of data available for parents who wish to have more information regarding this dangerous activity. Below are several good websites to visit for more information. For now, we hope that all parents will talk with their child(ren) about the dangers of this so-called game to ensure that it never happens again.
